Known Issues With LocateXT Software Products

LocateXT software does not scan or read PDF documents

Affected Software: Any version of LocateXT software on any Microsoft Windows system.
Description: LocateXT appears to not read or extract anything from a PDF document. It misses data it should be extracting within a PDF document.
Cause: A PDF IFilter is missing or overwritten. LocateXT cannot properly scan PDF documents without this IFilter.
Solution: Download and install a PDF IFilter or fix the existing IFilter that may be overwritten.
  • Windows XP/Windows 7 32-bit systems, do one of the following:
  • Windows XP/Windows 7 64-bit systems:
  • Windows 8/Windows 10 32-bit & 64-bit systems.  These systems include a PDF IFilter.  If it is not working, the registry entry may have been overwritten.  Do the following:
    • Repair the registry by following steps 1 & 2 of the “Workaround” section shown here

LocateXT software does not scan or read Microsoft® Office documents

Affected Software: Any version of LocateXT on any Microsoft Windows system.
Description: LocateXT appears to not read or extract anything from Microsoft Office Documents.  It misses data it should be extracting within an Office document.
Cause: The Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack and subsequent Service Pack and updates are missing.  These filter packs are required, and are all freely downloadable from Microsoft. These filter packs have been included on LocateXT CD media in the past, but are NOT INCLUDED in online trial downloads due to licensing restrictions.
Solution: Download and install the proper Microsoft Filter Pack.

Strange "right-click menu" behavior in Windows 7 or Windows Vista after installing LocateXT 1.0

Affected Software: LocateXT 1.0 on Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows Vista systems.
Description: After installing LocateXT 1.0, some right-click menu commands open a file “Save As” window instead of performing the expected action.
Cause: This is an identified bug in LocateXT 1.0 that affects Windows 7 and Windows Vista only.  Windows XP is unaffected.

Solution: Download and install the LocateXT 1.0 Patch for Windows 7/Windows Vista.
